The IFC map is worthless because all social service sites are not equal. IFC’s map is intentionally designed to hide the fact that the three most at risk overnight social services surround Homestead Park.
In fact, we have repeated this several times to IFC in the shelter subcommittee meetings as well as in previous other meetings with IFC.
IFC is trying to give the council good sound bites for when they approve the blank-check SUP.
There is no comparison between a facility that takes drunk and high men on white flag nights 200 nights per year and the other facilities shown on that map. From 2003-2009, the men’s shelter address had 250+ incidents reported to the police, Freedom House drug detox with additional men and women halfway houses had 70+ incidents, the women’s shelter address had 60. These just don’t compare to Ronald McDonald House’s 5 incidents or the Fountain Ridge Handicap group home which had 0 non-information incidents. The others are similar.
Why not a map which at least distinguishes overnight social services from daytime services?
Why is the map littered with churches and apartments?
