First, I have said several times that the County is represented on the Chapel Hill Public Library Board of Trustees. If they are unaware of that, regardless of the reasons, that’s their fault and shows how broken their advisory process is. Evelyn Daniels has served for several years and I’ve seen some of the reports that she has submitted.
Second, people continue to discuss “usage” as only those things that are counted, like check-outs. There is much more to usage that has to be considered. Saying this over and over has had no impact so it makes you wonder if people really want to have the right conversation.
Chapel Hill established its own library for good reasons. What kind of service would the County provide if the Chapel Hill tax dollars now going to the library were no longer provided? If the County wants the CHPL to help “solve” services issues in this part of the County, then they should increase the subsidy.
Thanks Will. As you may know your blog was cited last night at the town council meeting by Gene Pease. Seems like the story in the paper didn’t quite capture the what the meeting was about. You on the other hand nailed it.
