ni parti ni maƮtre!!
I can’t get too excited about this move, Will. I’d still love to see you on the Town Council, where party affiliation doesn’t matter much.
I will remain a member of the Democratic Party. I don’t expect to agree with it on all issues. I don’t expect to agree with any dozen people in Chapel Hill or with you, for that matter. But politics is a group affair. Parties and advocacy groups are part of the process, IMHO.
It seems to me that we Americans are seduced by the romance of independence. We buy Harley Davidson shirts and stickers, we drink Budweiser and fool ourselves into thinking that we’re not part of groups.
I certainly don’t see you as a typical all-show independent, but I do feel that something is missing from your show of independence….
Thanks George. I’ve been a lost sheep for awhile… All three folks that asked me how to re-register have been politically active – one in the peace movement, one in Chatham politics/his Dem precinct, one on eco issues. This might be a rare conjunction or it might be a trend – either case it’s kind of a canary in the coal mine for the party.
If there’s any silver-lining here, it’s that at least this one wayward soul plans to continue to help the party at the grassroots
